It all began when Erin Mindell Cannon wanted her favorite Austin milkshake and discovered the company had gone out of business. Always determined to see the opportunity in a set-back, Erin took it as a sign that maybe it was time to finally start thinking in earnest about her long-time fantasy of opening a dessert restaurant—and why not ice cream? She had been making ice creams at home for over a decade with the best ingredients she could find. Might this be the time to do something further with that hobby?
Never one to be left behind, her mom, Jacalyn Helms, was excited to bring her small business, journalism, and marketing skills to the table. Throughout their childhood, Jacalyn had modeled creativity, dedication, and following one’s heart for her three children, and here was an opportunity to work with one on something they were both passionate about.
